Words from artist Fasim / Germán Bel;
“New print of a digital collage of two of the characters that have indirectly influenced my formation as a contemporary urban artist; Rammellzee and Jean Michel Basquiat, both are icons of New York City, the first was a HipHop emcee and urban artist, the second was a superstar of abstract neo expressionism and both are legends today.
I had this work a bit cornered and hadn’t shown it much, nor had anyone asked me for any work or collaboration, so it seemed like a good idea to print a series of 100.
One day while working in Photoshop, trying new things, I mixed two masks at random and suddenly I realized that they formed the personalities of the two, in a duality, and I worked on that idea until it was fully formed.
Like Ramm, I like to use useless things, objects that apparently can no longer serve for anything, in this case they are images of our society, digital, that perhaps have no practical use alone, but once melted in the crucible of the creator, they adopt new forms that stimulate the association of ideas and concepts, of familiar figures, even if they have no relation to what is represented.”
